Job Description

The Senior Research Specialist provides a variety of essential support to over two dozen on-going UNL, UNMC and other research projects. Notably, this includes crucial support for the current NCIBC project leaders, where SBC is providing a valuable resource to help establish new biomedical research programs and facilitate their success. Overall, the Senior Research Specialist will provide important support to numerous projects seeking external funding by providing critical preliminary data to support for planned grant proposals and/or scientific manuscripts. Specifically, the Senior Research Specialist will aid with experimental design, sample preparation, data collection and data analysis. This position will supervise staff and is expected to train undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral students as needed for their SBC projects.

Skill Requirements

Minimum Required Qualifications: Master’s degree in in chemistry, biochemistry, or a related field and 4 years’ experience in one or more of the following areas: metabolomics
lipidomics prokaryote, proteomics, eukaryote or tissue culture preparation nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR) or mass spectrometry (MS) required. Experience gained during postgraduate studies is acceptable in meeting this 4-year requirement.
Preferred Qualifications: PHD in degree in chemistry, biochemistry, or a related field. Experience in several of the following areas: metabolomics, lipidomics and proteomics.
prokaryote, eukaryote or tissue culture preparation nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR)
or mass spectrometry (MS) is preferred. Other preferred qualifications include experience using relevant analytical instrumentation, chromatographic techniques, robotics/automation, high-volume sample processing, and multivariate or univariate statistics the ability to troubleshoot research instruments management and/or mentorship experience and service-oriented experience guiding diverse stakeholders in the available services and development of projects.
