Job Description:

The Converse University Department of Natural Sciences invites applicants for a tenure-track position in biology starting August 2024. The individual appointed will teach Zoology, Ecology, introductory courses, seminar, and other courses that fulfill department needs. The successful candidate will develop a research program that involves undergraduates and will serve the college. Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. in biology, preferably with expertise in ecology. Salary: Commensurate with experience

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Teach and prepare lecture and laboratory sections of assigned courses, including preparation of laboratory materials and classroom activities
  2. Course load is 24 teaching hours per academic year. This is typically 4 lecture/lab courses, one lecture course, and seminar.
  3. Provide students with timely evaluation of their performance in classes.
  4. Maintain current understanding of appropriate fields of science, technology, and pedagogy and incorporate them into teaching, as appropriate.
  5. Provide academic advising for biology students and environmental studies students.
  6. Develop a research program that involves undergraduates as participants. Most research is performed during the summer.
  7. Attend appropriate departmental and institutional meetings and serve the department and institution as needed.
  8. Follow the proper procedures for requisitioning textbooks, instructional supplies, expendable supplies, and travel requisitions and reports.
  9. Follow the approved academic calendar and exam schedules.
  10. Participate in all required faculty activities, as outlined in the faculty handbook.
  11. Other duties may be assigned by immediate supervisor.

Qualifications

  1. Ph.D. or equivalent degree in biology
  2. Experience in teaching and developing Ecology and Zoology courses for majors and pre-healthcare students. Ecology is offered annually, and Zoology is offered annually.
  3. Research experience that can be extended to include undergraduates as collaborators.
  4. Ability to teach and participate in introductory courses (2-semester sequence), and seminar courses.
  5. Ability to teach additional coursework that complements current departmental expertise and fulfills needs for the students.
