Clarissa Henry

Dr. Henry is an established investigator who has led a successful NIH, NSF, and private foundation- funded (Muscular Dystrophy Association, March of Dimes) research program during her 19-year tenure at UMaine. Dr. Henry’s research focuses on extracellular impacts on cellular behavior, in particular on how muscle cell adhesion to the extracellular matrix mediates muscle development, homeostasis, and disease. Dr. Henry currently has a RO1 focused on how NAD+ signaling impacts the muscle extracellular matrix and the subsequent effects on homeostasis and disease. In addition to being an ad-hoc member on multiple NIH panels, Dr. Henry sat on the NIH study section Skeletal Muscle and Exercise Physiology SMEP) 2013-2017.

Dr. Henry was a visiting faculty for an Advanced Microscopy Course at the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro. Dr. Henry was Co-Vice Chair of the Gordon Myogenesis Conference (2019) and is Co-Chair of the upcoming Myogenesis Gordon conference 2023. Dr. Henry was a Board Member of the Zebrafish Disease Models Society 2016-2019, and is on the External Advisory Board for the Muscle Research Center at UCLA. Dr. Henry is also on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Developmental Biology.
