Rick Bevins, PhD is the Willa Cather Professor of Psychology at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and a nationally recognized researcher in the field of behavioral neuroscience. His work focuses on the psychological and neurobiological mechanisms underlying drug use, addiction, and motivated behavior, with a particular emphasis on nicotine and tobacco use disorders. Through decades of federally funded research, Dr. Bevins has advanced understanding of how environmental cues, learning, and memory influence substance use, helping to inform strategies for prevention and treatment. He is also committed to mentoring students and early-career scientists, contributing to the development of the next generation of behavioral health researchers.
Research Interests: My research program bridges areas of neuroscience, pharmacology, animal learning and behavior, and biopsychology.
