SUMMARY:Funding and Grant Resources for Research- Tulane University
DESCRIPTION:In this workshop\, you will learn about the more “traditional” tools to investigate funding opportunities relevant to your field\, including community engaged scholarship. We will then go outside the box and investigate creative ways to find relevant funding and grant opportunities that you may never have considered! Resources that we will cover include grants.gov\, grant forward\, foundation directory\, and more! \nFacilitator: Raquel Horlick (Coordinator for Scholarly Resources\, Sciences & Engineering\, Howard-Tilton Memorial Library)\, Kathy Kozar (Director\, Sponsored Projects Administration) \nThursday\, November 4\, 11am-12:15pm \nJoin us live: Room 308 of the Howard-Tilton Library or by Zoom – The Zoom link will be provided immediately after you register here \nFor more information\, contact Myriam Huet mhuet@tulane.edu \n\n\nFor more information on this event\, please visit https://tulane.campuslabs.com/engage/event/7499955 \nFunding and Grant Resources for Research | Tulane University Events

SUMMARY:New Mexico- NCGR Fall 2021 Virtual Bioinformatics Intensive
DESCRIPTION:This program is geared towards training biologists (undergraduates\, graduates and researchers) with minimal or no bioinformatics experience. Space is limited. \nHosted online by The National Center for Genome Resources (NCGR)\, Santa Fe\, NM \nNovember 8 – November 12\, 2021 (5 days) \n Objective \nDE: In workshop 1\, students will acquire the skill set to independently analyze RNA-Seq data using the command line interface\, analytical workflows and         current DE tools. UNIX fundamentals\, RNA-Seq\, data QC\, alignments\, read count generation and pathway analysis. Visualization will also be briefly covered with topics such as generation of simple graphs using R and utilizing genome browsers (e.g. Integrative Genomics Viewer (IGV)). \nMetagenomics: students will use the command line interface to learn and conduct 16S Community Profiling and whole genome Metagenomics and meta transcriptomics analysis. Relevant tools such as QIIME2 will be used for community analysis and Centrifuge\, MEGAN\, DIAMOND and other tools for meta transcriptomics analysis. \n Topic overview \nDE entails examining the fraction of the genome that is responsible for making products that drive organismal function. Gene expression is influenced by various extrinsic physiological and environmental as well as several intrinsic properties of the organism. Whole transcriptome profiles are becoming increasingly popular\, useful and generate large volumes of data. Knowing how to handle\, analyze\, and make biological inferences on this scale of data is a valuable skill-set for students and researchers. \nMicrobes are extremely essential for every part of human life.  Microbes are closely associated with plants and animals and participate in the healthy functioning of hosts by making all nutrients\, vitamins and metals available to them.  Our gut microbes for instance make energy from food available to us while protecting us from other pathogenic bacteria. Hence it is evident\, microbes do not conduct these functions as single entities\, instead as complex communities. Through metagenomics workshop\, we will use computational methods to maximize our understanding of the collective genetic composition as well as the activities of complex microbial communities sampled from diverse environments. \nNCGR Fall 2021 Virtual Bioinformatics Intensive | New Mexico INBRENew Mexico INBRE (nminbre.org)

SUMMARY:Applications and Competitions for Grant Funding
DESCRIPTION:LBRN was established in September 2001 with Biomedical Research Infrastructure Networks (BRIN) funding by the National Institutes of Health (NIH)\, through the National Center for Research Resources (NCRR) Grant P20RR016456\, the LBRN is committed to raising the research competitiveness of Louisiana researchers. IDeA Networks of Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE) is the second phase of the BRIN Program when LBRN initially started. Currently\, LBRN is in the third phase with continued funding by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) Grant 8P20GM103424 and the Louisiana Board of Regents Support Fund. \nThe Louisiana Biomedical Research Network offers a limited number of grants and research programs to which qualified researchers may apply.
