The UMaine Institute of Medicine, along with partner organizations JAX, MDI Biological Laboratory, MaineHealth, Northern Light Health, University of New England, University of Southern Maine, and the Roux Institute, are planning the second Maine Research Symposium on Biomedical Science and Engineering for Wednesday – Friday, October 25 – 27, 2023. This year’s symposium will be offering events on mental health, rural health, translational and basic sciences in Collins Center for the Arts, the Hudson Museum and Wells Conference Center.

The call for poster abstracts is now open.

The draft schedule is available for review. PLEASE NOTE: speakers that have confirmed will list an asterisk, and speakers pending confirmation will have a double asterisk.

Registration will be open in mid-August.  Registration fee is $35 for students and $75 for all others and includes access to all three-days (as well as attendance at the MERGE Collaborative on Friday, October27) breakfast, lunches, and receptions.
PLEASE NOTE: the 18th Annual Geriatrics Colloquium will be held on Wednesday, October 25, and requires a separate registration.

Hotel blocks of rooms are available at multiple locations in Bangor and Orono.

The 2023 Symposium Registration site is now open!

Please note there are two registration sites, depending on the event(s) you will participate in.

  • October 25: 18th Annual Geriatrics Colloquium (offering attendance both in-person and Zoom). The registration fee, $0 – $40 (price depends on options selected), will include refreshments, lunches and receptions. Registration to the 18th Annual Geriatrics Colloquium is accessible here.
  • October 25-27: Research Symposium and the MERGE Collaborative. The registration fee, $35 students; $75 all others, will include access to all three-days of the symposium, the MERGE Collaborative, refreshments, lunches and receptions. Registration to the Research Symposium and the MERGE Collaborative is accessible here.
  • NOTE: There will be an evening banquet dinner on Thursday, October 26 (tentative scheduled time from 6:30 – 8:30) in Wells Conference Center. Dinner will include a soup or salad option, dinner rolls, choice of a chicken, haddock, or vegetarian main dish, dessert, as well as iced tea, coffee and hot tea service.
  • Tickets to this event are $25 and must be purchased in advanced as space is limited. Tickets to the dinner are available in the Research Symposium and the MERGE Collaborative registration link.
