Michael R. Garrett is an established investigator who is the PI for Molecular Center of Health and Disease Association, MBA is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacology with a secondary appointment in the Department of Medicine (Nephrology) at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) in Jackson, Mississippi. He serves as the Director of the Molecular and Genomics Core Facility, which is funded through several external grants. He also serves as Associate Director of Research the Center for Genetic Medicine, a center that he helped establish. He received his Ph.D. in Molecular Basis of Disease from the University of Toledo, College of Medicine. Dr. Garrett has an NIH funded research program involving studying the genetics of complex disease including hypertension, kidney disease, and diabetes. His laboratory takes a multidisciplinary approach by utilizing animal models, cell-culture based systems, genetic and genomics methods, proteomics, and bioinformatics. He has authored more than 55 peer-reviewed research publications and multiple book chapters/review articles. He is an active reviewer for numerous journals, participates as an ad hoc reviewer for several NIH study sections and research foundations as well as serves on several national committees.
