Dr. Joey Granger is the Billy S. Guyton Distinguished Professor, professor of physiology, director of the Cardiovascular-Renal Research Center, and Dean of the School of Graduate Studies in the Health Sciences. He earned his Ph.D. from UMMC and received postdoctoral training in physiology at the Mayo Clinic.

He served as faculty at Mayo Medical School and Eastern Virginia Medical School before joining the UMMC faculty in 1990.

Granger has received numerous awards from the American Heart Association and the American Physiological Society. He is an associate editor of Hypertension and is a past president of the APS.

His current research focuses on the role of endothelial and neurohormonal factors in mediating hypertension in animal models of preeclampsia. His laboratory is also investigating the role of the renal endothelin system in salt-sensitive hypertension. His work has been continuously funded by the National Institutes of Health since 1984.

He is also working as Principal Investigator of the Mississippi Center of Clinical and Transitional Research.
